Philosophy of Education
As a physical education
teacher I believe that there is something out there that everyone can do for
enjoyment and to stay active. I hear so often (mostly from adults) people say
“I hate exercise”, and it truly saddens me. When I hear people say this I can’t
help but think that they simply haven’t found the activity that is right for
them yet, or even worse that they were turned away from physical activity due
to a negative experience in the past. As a PE teacher I understand that not
everyone is going to share my passion for health or become great athletes
someday, but that is not my goal. My goal is that I can help all of my students
find at least one activity that they enjoy and can pursue for the rest of their
lives to improve their overall health. From here I believe it is my job to
provide them with the tools and skills necessary to pursue that activity.
Because of this I am constantly trying to think of new and creative ways to
make exercise more enjoyable, as well as expose my students to as large of a
variety of different activities as possible.
As a health teacher I
believe I teach the most relevant subjects students will ever learn. Through
teaching health education I realize that I have been given an incredible responsibility
and platform to positively impact students’ lives, and I strive every day to do
so to the best of my abilities. Though other school classes are certainly
important, as a health teacher I get to help students learn skills that they
can apply to their lives each and every day in every walk of life. My greatest
desire as a health teacher is to establish relationships with my students so I
can provide them with relevant information that can help them increase their
standard of living by making good choices. Through building a relationship and
trust with my students, my hope is that I can help them develop the confidence
and skills necessary to be successful in every life decision they make.
