A-Z Aclohol
Lesson: A-Z Alcohol
Unit: ATOD
Age: Middle or High School
Learning Targets: The students will
Prep: Create an A-Z worksheet by pasting the Instructions on one side of a Word Document and A-Z Table on the other. Print off enough for each student.
How I teach the lesson:
I always do this activity at the beginning of my ATOD unit to get a gauge on what my students know/think they know about Alcohol. First, give the students the option of partnering up they choose, then hand out the A-Z worksheets. Once each of the students has a worksheet I read through the instructions and answer any questions that they may have. Once they are ready I give them all but the last 10-15 minutes of class to complete as much as possible. For the last 10-15 minutes we then go through the sheet and have a class discussion about their info.I like this activity because it allows me to get a read for what my class already knows about Alcohol, and allows me to address early on any misconceptions that they have. The kids also really enjoy it.
Instructions
With a partner you will go through the alphabet and attempt to write down at least one word in each box pertaining to alcohol that starts with that letter. These words can be different ways in which alcohol affects the body, or even be how it can affect relationships and your surroundings. For example, for the letter B you might write the word “Buzzed”, or for D the word “Drunk”. Also you may not use brand names for different types of alcohol, or list different kinds of alcoholic beverage (vodka, beer, liquor). For each letter you complete you will receive 1 point, and terms that use 2 words that start with the same letter get 2 points (Drunk Driving, Beer Belly, etc.). Be creative (but appropriate) and try to complete the entire alphabet.
